SAFFORD — To help all county residents safely recycle electronic and other items, the Make A Difference Committee announced its second annual E-Waste Recycling event will take place Saturday, April 22 at the Safford Regional Landfill.

All residents regardless of where you live may dispose of electronics and appliances for free from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Electronic items that will be accepted include:

• Computers, laptops, servers

• Printers, fax machines

• Anything with a green board

• Mouse, keyboards, cables, cords

• Televisions, monitors

• DVD players, VHS players

• Power tools

• Video game consoles and accessories

• Cassette players, speakers, stereo equipment, headphones

• Cell phones, telephones, answering machines

• Wires, cabling, printed circuit boards

• Microwave ovens, toasters

• Rechargeable, alkaline and vehicle batteries

• Chargers, surge protectors

No need to worry about sensitive information or other items on hard drives as they and components that carry data will be shredded or erased. According to organizer Laura Rogers, nobody will have access to your personal information at any time.

Appliances will also be accepted for recycling, including washers and dryers, refrigerators and freezers, stoves and ranges. The program will also accept HVAC units, hot water heaters, exercise equipment and other small kitchen and household appliances.

For those also bringing in their free load of refuse to the landfill at the same time, be sure to place the recyclable items on the conveyance last and in the back so they may be removed prior to entering the landfill.

The E-Waste Recycling event is sponsored by the municipalities of Safford, Thatcher and Pima, Graham County, Metal Mite Recycling, SEACAB, III Counties Distributing, the Wellness Connection, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, JustServe.org and AmeriCorps.
