United Way announces Cycle 3 grant recipients

SAFFORD — Schools were the big winners when it came to the third round of grant funding from the United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties.

Of the nine recipients of grants in excess of $5,000, five were for school-related activities. However, the largest amounts went to the nonprofit that serves the two counties’ senior citizens, and a town seeking to increase recreational opportunities.

The Cycle 3 Grant recipients are:

● SEACUS — Supporting Senior Services — $220,000

● Town of Thatcher— Bringing Light to Town of Thatcher Recreation Complex Soccer fields — $200,000

● Graham County Schools Superintendent — Get Ready 6 — $75,500

● Tooth BUDDS — Tooth BUDDS Programming — $70,630

● Eastern Arizona College — EAC Monster Exchange Pantry — $50,600

● Wild Horse Haven — Wild Horses for Wellness — $48,625

● Thatcher PTO — When you got to go, you got to go — $34,145

● Mt Turnbull Elementary School — Heritage Garden & Art Center program — $25,000

● Fort Thomas High School — Link Crew — $14,025

$5,000 or Less Grants:

● Duncan High School — Culinary Arts Class workspace — $4,814.40

● Thatcher High School — Weight Room Equipment — $3,977.60

● Solomon Elementary School fourth grade class learning environment — $3,566.48

● Safford Lions Club — Neighbors helping Neighbors in the Gila Valley — $2,000

● SEACUS — Duncan Senior Center Facility sink — $1,862.81

The recipients were announced Monday across the United Way’s social media accounts.

“Thank you so much to our generous donors from Freeport Foundation, Freeport Employees, City of Safford Employees and all our private donors. These programs, projects and events that positively impact our communities happen because of you,” the United Way wrote.
