SAFFORD — The City of Safford announced Monday the first tenant in its effort to lease industrial space at the airport.

Ponderosa Metal Works will locate its new 12,000-square-foot facility at the Safford Airport Business Park. It’s anticipated the new operation will create at least 15 new jobs.

The building will be located across Aviation Way from the airport terminal, and the city will conduct a ground-breaking for the new facility at noon Friday, Sept. 1.

Ponderosa Metal Works LLC registered with the Arizona Corporation Commission on Feb. 3, 2023. Managers are listed as Rex Bryce and Trenton Nelson. Its social media describes the business as a “Metal fabricator, commercial and industrial” and a “fence and gate contractor.”

In January, the Safford City Council voted unanimously to expand economic development efforts in the city by authorizing Airport staff to begin recruiting new and existing businesses to lease land at the business park. Businesses do not have to be aviation related.
