Another death, active COVID-19 cases exceed 700

SAFFORD — Graham County Health Department reported another coronavirus-related death Thursday.

That brings the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Graham County in September thus far to seven , making September the third deadliest month this year. There were 14 deaths in January while February saw eight deaths.

December 2020 was the worst month for coroanvirus deaths in Graham County, with 16.

To date, 96 Graham County residents have died as a result of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

The Health Department also reported 28 new cases Thursday, bringing September’s total number of new cases thus far to 324.

The Health Department is also tracking 722 cases currently considered active.

Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center announced it would be providing to the public weekly updates on COVID-19 operations at the hospital.

Thirty-five percent of all coronavirus tests performed at the hospital over the previous 14 days came back as positive, and the hospital averaged 14 patients hospitalized daily due to COVID-19 over the last two weeks.

Graham County continues to offer free vaccinations for anyone over the age of 12, including the FDA-approved Pfizer vaccine, at the vaccination clinic on Main Street at Safford.
