PIMA — The Pima Town Council discussed businesses in the community during Tuesday’s regular meeting.

Public Works Director Dennis Lines told the council that, since designating land south of the cemetery as an industrial zone, there is more interest in development there, including Graham County Co-op seeking to trade land.

The problem, he said, is that the town has not yet established value of the land, nor have contracts with some of those already doing business in the area.

Mayor C.B. Fletcher said appraisals have been requested and the council unanimously directed the Planning and Zoning Commission to begin the process of setting conditions on types of businesses that could be allowed in the area.

Fletcher also said OHS has repaid the Co-op grant used to develop its building, as well as paid the city in excess of $425,000 to purchase the building and land. And the former owners of JoBi’s in Safford have agreed to purchase land for about $25,000 to develop a water and ice retail store, once the town is able to secure the land from the bank currently holding ownership.
