SAFFORD — After two days with relatively few new cases, Thursday saw a return to form when it comes to coronavirus in the Gila Valley.
Graham County Health Department reported 33 new COVID-19 cases Thursday.
That brings December’s total of new cases to 491, about 3.6 percent more than the same time in November, the peak month of the pandemic in Graham County.
Twenty-five of Thursday’s new cases were in the Safford area and eight in Thatcher. Ten involved persons 20 to 44 years old, eight involved those younger than 20, six involved persons over 65, five involved those 55 to 64 and three involved persons 45 to 54 years old.
Graham County’s total number of cases since the start of the pandemic is up to 2,706, with 1,011 cases considered active and 41 deaths.

Greenlee County
Greenlee County Health Department reported five new cases Wednesday evening.
That brings the total number of new coronavirus cases in Greenlee County in December to 104.
Greenlee County’s total is 350, with 119 cases considered active and three deaths.
