THATCHER — At its most recent meeting in late November, the Thatcher Town Council voted unanimously to accept the request for proposal for Palmer and Johnson Family Dental to relocate from Safford into the Thatcher Commercial Plaza.

Palmer and Johnson’s purchase price for the land is $95,000. Under the proposal, construction is to begin within 12 months.

It’s the last parcel that was available in the Thatcher Commercial Plaza, but Town Manager Heath Brown said the town is not finished with economic development.

“We have discussed one or two other properties, but not for a bit; it’s been a bit,” Brown said. “The thought was always, ‘Let’s see how this (Thatcher Commercial Plaza) goes,’ and it took a while. It took like eight years from the time we bought it to we’ll finally dispose of it. But we have looked at a couple of others, yes.”

In 2018, the Town of Thatcher purchased the old Red Lamp Mobile Home and RV Park with the goal of new development.

In June 2022, the town agreed to the purchase of one lot by American Southwest Credit Union, which is based in Sierra Vista. Construction of its first Graham County branch is nearing completion.

In March 2025, the Town Council OK’d the request for proposal to develop a new Culver’s Restaurant by franchisee Kevin Adams, also based in Sierra Vista. Construction of the new Culver’s is expected to begin soon.
