PIMA — While the Pima Town Council continues its search for a new town manager, the council did move forward on other personnel matters.

During the regular meeting last Tuesday, the Town Council agreed to authorize creation of an additional full-time position in the Public Works Department.

And the council agreed to hire a town attorney on a contract basis.

A few years ago, the Town Council opted to not retain an attorney on a contract basis, rather bringing in local attorney H. Grant Walker to serve as legal counsel on an as-needed basis when entering into contracts.

“I think that, based on the events of the past few months, and looking forward, more importantly, where we’re going as a town, hiring a new town manager, I think we will do ourselves a great service by having an attorney here to guide us and get us pointed in the right direction,” said Vice Mayor Dale Rogers.

The council voted 4-1 to issue a request for qualifications and begin advertising in order to hire an attorney. Mayor C.B. Fletcher was opposed.
