DUNCAN – Duncan Elementary held its spelling bee Friday, Jan. 20. It was a great showing of talent from the qualifying students.

The spelling bee participants featured the top spellers from third- through eighth-grade classes. The bee lasted more than an hour, with all the students showing a great knowledge of even the trickiest of rules in the English language.

After a back-and-forth spell-off that lasted a few rounds between the final two contestants, Brody Waters was crowned the champion with Oniah Jensen coming in second. The top 10 spellers will work together to prepare and build the final team for the Greenlee County Spelling Bee on Feb. 8.
