THATCHER — The Graham County Substance Abuse Coalition is giving the public a chance to help keep narcotics off the streets.

The annual Dump the Drugs event will take place Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Home Depot parking lot.

Unwanted human and pet prescriptions can be handed off to Thatcher Police officers, who will incinerate the medications.

In addition, the event will serve as a canned food drive to benefit local homeless ministries. And Apache burgers and street tacos will be for sale, with proceeds to benefit the House of Hope Sober Living Facility.

Graham County Substance Abuse Coalition is also a community distributor for naloxone, which is used to counteract opioid overdose. The coalition will have naloxone available for free for anyone who requests at the event.

Those who can’t attend can drop off their expired prescription medications for proper disposal any time in the boxes located at Thatcher and Pima Police stations, Graham County Sheriff’s Office and Canyonlands Health Care.
