THATCHER — On the first Saturday of each month, the Safford Lions Club helps distribute fresh produce brought to the Gila Valley by Borderlands.

April’s P.O.W.W.O.W. distribution will be bigger than ever before.

For a $12 donation, residents can get the normal order of up to 70 pounds of fresh produce; however, this Saturday residents can double that amount of produce for just $20. Which means about 140 pounds of fresh vegetables and fruit than can shared with family and neighbors.

In addition, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the Safford Lions Club would also be distributing Family Commodities Boxes, during the produce distribution Saturday.

The commodities boxes contain perishable items, such as bread and, in addition to canned items. However, the Lions Club won’t know exactly what’s in the boxes until they arrive Saturday morning.

The drive-through distribution takes place Saturday, April 3, from 7-10 a.m., in the Home Depot parking lot.
