SAFFORD — The City of Safford is rolling out a new neighborhood beautification program, at no cost to residents.
The Community Clean-up Trailer can be requested by any resident for use of disposing of larger items or a substantial amount of trash.
“That trailer will be dropped off on a Monday and picked up on Thursday, or dropped off on a Thursday and picked up on Monday, so that gives you ample amount of time to load that trailer,” said Safford Neighborhood Officer Andrew Bell.
The trailer is 10 feet long, 5 feet wide, 3 feet deep, and, when full, will be hauled off to the landfill by city personnel.
Because it is going to the landfill, a number of items may not be placed in the trailer, including:
● Lead-based paints
● Oil and fuel waste
● Burn barrels
● Contaminated soils, yard waste or rags
● Paint thinners or solvents
● Pesticides and insecticides
● Poisons
● Acids or other caustic chemicals
● Explosives
● Sewage
● Tires on rims
However, tires off rims, batteries and large appliances will be accepted.
Bell has also worked with volunteer groups that will help the resident with cleaning the property.
The only requirement to qualify for the trailer is to be a Safford resident. To register a time for trailer drop off, go to New Submission (saffordaz.gov).
Jamie Embick, the city’s Planning and Community Development director, said the city is also planning to place a large Dumpster in a residential neighborhood for the entire area to use free of charge during the next Community Pride Days later this year.
