Arizona Family Campout returning to Roper Lake State Park

SAFFORD — Arizona State Parks’ Arizona Family Campout is returning to the Gila Valley this fall.

Roper Lake State Park is one of 10 state parks where families can be introduced to camping.

 The Arizona Family Campout at Roper Lake is Oct. 16-18, and cost is $90 for a family of four for one night, $110 for two nights. Additional family members are $5 each and children must be 6 and older. No pets are allowed.

State Parks rangers will teach participants how to set up a tent and cook outdoors, plus there will be other activities.

The full list of Arizona Family Campout events includes:

  • Sept. 5-6: Homolovi State Park, Winslow
  • Sept. 12-13: Tonto Natural Bridge State Park, Payson
  • Sept. 26-27: Kartchner Caverns State Park, Benson
  • Oct. 2-4: Cattail Cove State Park, Lake Havasu City
  • Oct. 16-18: Roper Lake State Park, Safford
  • Oct. 31-Nov. 1: Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park, Tombstone
  • Nov. 7-8: Picacho Peak State Park, Eloy
  • Nov. 14-15: Oracle State Park, Oracle
  • Nov. 28-29: Buckskin Mountain State Park, Parker
  • Dec. 5-6: Lost Dutchman State Park, Apache Junction

Families are limited to one event per season, and three camping events total.
