THATCHER — Gila Valley resident just have to wait 168 days until they can enjoy cheese curds, fresh-made frozen custard and butter burgers.
The ground-breaking for a new Culver’s Restaurant in Thatcher took place Tuesday afternoon.
Nick Walker, a member of the ownership group and the store operator, said deciding to open a location in Graham County was a no-brainer.
“Honestly, it’s the community,” Walker said. “Everyone’s just been so very helpful and friendly, and it coincides with the Culver’s brand and philosophy.”
The ownership group is based in Sierra Vista, but also has restaurants in Green Valley and Tucson, as well as Georgia and Illinois. Walker said his ownership group focuses on local needs, and is a strong of FFA programs for area youths.
In March of last year, the Thatcher Town Council agreed to sell the land in the Thatcher Commercial Plaza, on U.S. Highway 70 at 3rd Avenue, for the restaurant, next to the soon-to-be-completed American Southwest Credit Union.

“What’s great about this is these businesses are seeking us out,” said Thatcher Mayor Jenny Howard. “That’s important. They want to be here; they want to invest here.”
Campbell Construction, which has experience building hundreds of other Culver’s across the nation, will handle the construction. Work is expected to begin within the next seven to 10 days and complete for opening to the public in August.
