Safford police were dispatched yesterday evening to the 400 block of Relation Street in response to a report of a small child walking on the sidewalk alone. The unaccompanied child was reported at approximately 8:00 PM. The reporting party had apparently retrieved the child and waited for police to arrive.
Upon arrival, officers took custody of the child and began a door to door search for the parents or guardians. After approximately an hour, officers located the residence the child had come from. Investigators learned that the child was left a babysitter’s residence while the parent went to work. The parent was contacted and came to pick up the child. According to the Safford Police Department Facebook page, the child was approximately 2 years old and was unharmed.
The incident is under investigation and a report will be forwarded to the Graham County Attorney’s office as well as the Arizona Department of Child Safety.
