MORENCI – Morenci fifth-year faculty member David Gallegos was recently named head football coach for the upcoming 2017 season. He was on three-year head coach Gary Sandoval’s staff for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

Prior to arriving in Morenci, the New Mexico Western University and Bayard Cobre High School graduate coached at all levels, from Pop Warner to high school varsity, in Deming for 16 years.

Gallegos has been teaching summer school at Fairbanks Middle School and has not finalized his staff, but says the Wildcats will be a run-oriented team.

Along with his wife Jessica, the sixth-grade math instructor has six children, son Jory (2014 MHS grad), daughters Dezirae (class of 2018) and Marissa (class of 2021), plus pre-high schoolers Davi (6th grade), Santi (5th grade), and Tatiana (4th grade).

Sandoval accepted a position at Tucson Amphitheater and left the district.
