Woman arrested on warrant, driver cited for no driver’s license

SAFFORD – A police officer on patrol Friday night pulled a car over for failing to dim their headlights for oncoming traffic and for stopping in the road where there was no stop sign. The vehicle had passed the officer on the 1500 block of 26th Street with it’s high beams on, then stopped at the intersection of 14th Avenue where there is no posted stop sign.

When the officer approached the car, he could see that the bright light indicator on the dash was still on. In addition to the driver, identified as Vanessa Contreras, there was another woman in the passenger seat. Contreras told the officer that she didn’t have her driver’s license with her. The passenger identified herself as Lena Galarza.

When the officer ran a wants and warrants check on both women, he found that Contreras’ driver’s license had been suspended, with court action required. The passenger, Alena Galarza, had a warrant for her arrest for aggravated DUI, with a $1,000 cash bond.

Galarza was taken into custody for the outstanding warrant. Contreras was cited for driving without a driver’s license and released. The vehicle was towed to a lot for a thirty day impound.
