Toll scam hitting Southeastern Arizona via text

THATCHER — Residents in Graham, Greenlee and Cochise counties are being warned of a new scam coming via text message.

The text contains an image of a “collection notice” from the state of Arizona, stating it is an “official legal enforcement order.”

The supposed violation is a failure to pay a toll, despite Arizona having no toll roads, bridges or tunnels.

The recipient is directed to scan a QR code to “remit Jull (sp) payment and confern (sp) compliance immediately.”

“If you receive a notice like this, know it is a scam,” Greenlee County Sheriff Eric Ellison said in a posting to social media.

“Don’t become a victim to this scam,” Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels said.
