THATCHER — Eastern Arizona College continues to highlight the work of its students, with the recent installation of a piece of artwork by a student in the president’s office.

The “SS Starbuck,” a steampunk vehicle in grayscale marker, was created by Tatum Starbuck and was unveiled in President Todd Haynie’s office on Wednesday.

“I really want (this) to show that we are connected to the students; that the administration of the institution and the students of the institution are really on the same page (and) we’re sharing the same mission. To tie those together I think is really important,” Haynie said.

Starbuck took her inspiration from a photo of a vehicle at the 2010 Burning Man Festival, and added subtle hints of ghosts in the clouds and background to give the piece her signature.

While the “SS Starbuck” is in marker per the class assignment from instructor Denna Cluff, Starbuck said she has a different medium in which she prefers to work.

“I really like working digitally,” Starbuck said. “I’ve always a computer and a pen in my hand.”

She added that her goal is to establish a career in graphic design once she graduates from EAC.

Starbuck’s piece will remain in Haynie’s office until another work from a student is selected in the first semester of the next school year.
