THATCHER — The Town of Thatcher has $291,022 to spend and wants the public’s input on how to spend it.
The town will hold a public meeting to hear public comment on how Community Development Block Grant funds should be spent. The public meeting will take place during the Town Council’s regular meeting Monday, Jan. 22, starting at 6:30 p.m.
Examples of projects for which Community Development Block Grant funds may be used are:
● Public infrastructure
● Community facilities
● Housing
● Public services
● Economic development
Community Development Block Grants are funded by the federal Housing and Urban Development Department to the states, which passes the money to the counties. Graham County splits the funds four ways, with Thatcher and Graham County getting half each one year, and Pima and Safford splitting the money the other year.
When Thatcher last had CDBG funding in 2021, residents suggested using it for a homeless shelter or more pickleball courts, while town staff suggested improving sidewalks and street lighting.
