THATCHER — The Thatcher Eagles shut out Arizona College Prep 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Eastern Arizona College in the quarterfinals of the 3A Soccer State Tournament. It will be the first ever appearance for a Thatcher boys soccer club in the semifinals of any state tournament, actually it’s the first time they’ve made it out of the first round. The Eagles are 17-3-1 on the season and have won 11 straight.

Thatcher had goals by Seniors Joby Rojas(19) and Timothy Fox(2). Freshman Kody Bingham tacked on his first varsity goal of the season. Goalkeeper Derick Bierman saved all four shots he saw as well.

The Eagles offense pounded 14 shots on goal with three of them finding the back of the net.

Thatcher is the #2 seed in the tournament and will take on #3 Phoenix Country Day School in the semi’s. PCDS beat BASIS Phoenix 8-0 on Saturday and were the 3A Runners-up last season.

“We think that PCDS is the team to beat in the playoffs and our expectations are to take care of business and be in the state finals,” said Thatcher Head Coach Isaac Rogers. “This team set our goal as winning a state title and we believe that is possible, we aren’t surprised we are here.”

The two will meet at 6:30pm on Tuesday night at Glendale High School. Tickets are only available online and can be purchased at this link, Phoenix Country Day vs Thatcher | Soccer Tickets | GoFan.
