Thatcher, Safford Fire Departments save two homes

THATCHER — Two homes were saved from complete destruction thanks to the quick action of area Fire Departments.

Both fires occurred on Nov. 6. The first was called in at about 11:30 a.m., when a mobile home on South 1st Avenue was spotted with smoke coming out of the attic.

Thatcher Fire was able to quickly extinguish the blaze and preliminary investigation indicated the fire started from weeds being burned to close to the home. No one was injured in the incident.

The second fire occurred at about 7:45 p.m. involving a home on South Artesia Trail.

The homeowner said she believed the fire started under the porch from a discarded cigarette.

Safford Fire was able to knock down the fire and preliminary investigation showed no signs of arson or foul play. There were no injuries.
