SAFFORD — Each summer, the City of Safford hosts a block party as a fund-raiser for the United Way of Graham and Greenlee Counties.

The event in Glenn Meadows Parks was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19 and this year it was shut down due to inclement weather in July. But it has gained new life and a new location.

On Monday, the Safford City Council unanimously approved a change of venue and date for the block party, now taking place Oct. 23, from 5-10 p.m., on the lawn in front of Safford City Hall.

The event will feature a cornhole tournament, live music, beer garden and vendors.

“This event will take place right after the Harvest Festival is over,” said Pam Frost, administrative events liaison for the city. “The Harvest Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and some vendors will be able to choose to leave at 4 p.m. or stay for the cornhole tournament.”

Cost to play in the cornhole tournament is $20 per team. To register, call 928-432-2296.

There will be no alcohol at the Harvest Festival earlier that day, as it is a free event for children and families.
