Chamber of Commerce seeking new board members

SAFFORD — The Graham County Chamber of Commerce is looking for a few good men and women.

On Wednesday, the chamber board established a nominating committee for new board members, to replace Doug Gardner and two other outgoing members, whose names were not immediately made available.

“So a board member’s responsibility with the chamber is to go to a meeting once a month; volunteer at our events; come up with ideas; watch me and my staff; and make sure we’re spending the money correctly, (and) make sure we’re accomplishing our mission and goals,” said Vance Bryce, executive director for the chamber.

Candidates will be interviewed by the nominating committee and the full board will vote on the prospective candidates in November. New board members will be seated in January.

The chamber serves as the voice of business in the Gila Valley, as well as promoting and marketing member businesses within and out of the area.

The chamber also serves as the tourism agency for the Gila Valley, using revenue generated by transient occupancy tax (tax charged to guests staying at area hotels) to promote Gila Valley attractions, amenities and events to potential visitors who live outside of Graham County.
