Safford police responded to Safford High School yesterday to investigate the suspicious circumstances behind copious amounts of blood that was discovered in the sports complex. Evidence found at the scene led detectives to request video surveillance from local business, which identified a male from a previous, unrelated incident.
According to a press release from Safford Police, the man suffers from a mental disorder and had caused self-inflicted trauma to his upper extremities. The evidence on scene along with the video evidence confirmed that the man was responsible for the blood found at Safford High School.
School officials were apprised of the situation and the scene was released for decontamination. School operation was not disturbed during the event or subsequent investigation.
