SAFFORD — Get ready for another busy weekend.

Things start at 7 a.m. and run until noon Friday, when Brandt Woods conducts the Community Mural Event on the south wall of Austin’s Auto Advantage in Safford.

The public is invited to help Woods and other artists paint nine different murals on the wall.

“Anybody can come, especially little kids,” Woods said. “I’ve got spray paint and stencils on one wall specifically for young kids, so they can come do a wall and feel like, ‘Hey, I did something.’ ”

Saturday the Community Mural Event will continue from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Joining Woods in completing murals are artists Harley Overton, AJ Wakefield and Tiffany of Colorbrush Co. Plus Lacey and Julia of Brilly Co. submitted a design that has already been completed.

Next on Friday, starting at 8 a.m. and running until 11 a.m., is a community yard sale at First United Methodist Church in Safford. The sale will continue Saturday, also from 8-11 a.m., and all proceeds will benefit Our Neighbor’s Farm and Pantry.

At noon Friday, the GFWC Woman’s Club of Safford will feature a presentation by Deanna Moeller on the history of the club. Moeller serves as secretary for the Graham County Historical Society.

The Woman’s Club of Safford has a long history of service to the community, including starting the area’s first public library.

Finally on Friday, starting at 6 p.m., is the annual Jett’s Friday Night Lights Flag Football and BBQ event at Eastern Arizona College. Featuring burger’s supplied by Carter’s Custom Cuts, the proceeds from the event will benefit #saveaskyler scholarships for area youths making a difference in their communities who plan to attend EAC.

In addition to the Community Mural Event and the Community Yard sale to benefit Our Neighbor’s Farm and Pantry, Saturday will feature the second annual Pima Fire Fest Car Show, sponsored by 19 Double X.

The line-up of the all-classes show starts at 8 a.m., and the show begins at 9 a.m. at Pima High School. Awards will be presented for the top 20 vehicles and all proceeds benefit the Pima Volunteer Fire Dept., which is fund-raising to build a new fire station.
