Patterson’s Perspective: Thanks for a great 2018

As 2018 comes to an end, I wanted to take the time and thank everybody for a great year of sporting.. I said it at the banquet when I was awarded the AIA Media award, and I truly do believe it.. I’m lucky to be the guy with the microphone. Without the athletes and coaches making deep runs in the playoffs every year, I don’t get a chance to broadcast all of those games.

Thank you to all of the sponsors for making what I do possible. Covering costs at a small operation is the top priority, if we didn’t have the support of local businesses, we couldn’t do what we do. Some folks I talk to don’t believe me, but in some markets they only do select games. We pride ourselves on carrying a game every week of football season and 3 a week in basketball season.

Thank you to the listeners and now readers for being fans of my work. It wouldn’t be near as much fun and would feel much more like a job if we didn’t have the best fans in the Gila Valley. I wasn’t sure how the transition from broadcaster to combo writer/broadcaster would go. I have to admit, I was a little bit nervous when the idea was first thrown my direction. I have enjoyed learning the writing process again, It’s been a long time since I was in school.

Thank you to my producers.. Big Time Timmy Jim, who has been keeping on track for over 4 years now.. And he laughs at all my jokes during commercial breaks.. That’s really why I keep him around.. CC is the newest member of the team and she will be learning the ropes.. She will eventually laugh at my lame jokes.. Without these two, the games would never get on the air, literally.

Thank you to my wife and statistician, Amanda.. She really is an important part of the broadcasts. You have no idea how much easier it is to focus on the actual broadcast when I don’t have to keep my own stats, plus they are about 100 times more accurate when she keeps them. Plus adding up to date stats to each broadcast really enhances it for you, the fans.
There were way more highs than there were lows in 2018, and for that I’m grateful. From the high of Thatcher winning their 3rd straight State Championship in football to the low of Eastern Arizona College dropping football and everything in between, thank you for being along for the ride and I look forward to an even better 2019!
