SAFFORD — The City of Safford is getting ready to act on improvements first discussed in last year.
The city is accepting bids on its sidewalk improvement project, with a deadline of Sept. 7.
The project includes 11,107 square-feet of concrete sidewalk, 16 ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps and 46 new driveways.
The two project areas are:
● North of U.S. Highway 70 and east of 8th Avenue, including 3,100 square-feet of new sidewalk and four curb ramps
● South of U.S. Highway 70, near Lafe Nelson, including 9,070 square-feet of new sidewalk, 5,752 square-feet of driveway and 15 curb ramps.
The city is using Community Development Block Grant funds to pay for the work. The city received $272,000 in CDBG funds in 2022.
CDBG money is dispersed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and may be used for infrastructure, public facilities, economic development and other communitywide services.
