More than 1 in 10 Do Nothing When Passwords are Compromised [Report]

We all (or should) know the importance of passwords in today’s digital world and a new report is shedding light on Americans’ password habits.

It found 43% of Americans have had their passwords hacked or compromised and more than 1 in 10 do nothing when their password has been compromised. In fact, Americans have had their passwords compromised an average of 4 times.

  • 60% feel their passwords are ‘somewhat secure’
  • 44% don’t use two-factor authentication (2FA) on important accounts
  • Most common passwords: ‘1234’, ‘admin’, and ‘password’

On average, Americans juggle 17 different passwords, so it’s no surprise 65% struggle to remember them. The common trends used in passwords include number sequences (37%), names (37%), years (27%), and pets (26%).
