SAFFORD — The deadline to take part in the next Gila Valley Leadership cohort is nearing.

Applications are due to the Graham County Chamber of Commerce by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10.

“We want to talk with people interested in serving on nonprofit boards, on school boards, in local elected office,” said Vance Bryce, Chamber executive director. “Also leadership within your church, within your family; leaders at every level.”

The leadership cohort is made up of a group of up to 15 people, who spend one day a month speaking with leaders from the area and visiting various services, businesses and organizations in the Gila Valley. The days are varied, with members visiting everything from wastewater treatment plants to farms to touring an area prison.

There is also a two-day trip to Phoenix, to tour the state Legislature and meet with state government leadership, including the state representatives and senator who represent Graham County.

Cost is $500 per person and is usually paid for by the participants’ places of business. Scholarships are also available.

Applications are available at the Graham County Chamber of Commerce building, 1051 W. Thatcher Blvd., in Safford; or by e-mail admin@grahamchamber.org.

Sponsors of Gila Valley Leadership include NatureSweet, Bayacan, Eastern Arizona College, the towns of Pima and Thatcher, City of Safford and Graham County.
