Graham County COVID-19 cases nearing ‘peak’ levels

SAFFORD — There were 31 new cases and one death in Graham County as a result of coronavirus over the past three days.

Graham County Health Department reported Monday on the newest death, a person over the age of 65 who was a resident of the San Carlos Apache reservation.

That brings Graham County’s total number of deaths to 27, with a mortality rate of 2.6 percent.

Fifteen of the new cases occurred Saturday, six were Sunday and 10 were Monday. That brings Graham County’s total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 1,038, with 256 of those cases considered active. Graham County has a positivity rate of 12.5 percent.

Graham County has experienced 187 new cases of COVID-19 thus far in October, the most through the first 19 days of a month since Graham County experienced 190 cases in July, the peak month of the pandemic in the county.

Greenlee County Health Department reported seven new cases over the weekend — five cases Saturday and two Sunday.

That brings Greenlee County’s total to 74, with 15 of the cases considered active and two deaths. There have been 15 new cases so far this month and Greenlee County has a positivity rate of 2.8 percent.
