SAFFORD — Gila Watershed Partnership is asking volunteers to do it again.

The First Friday event for November is planting along the Gila River.

“We’re going to go out to Fort Thomas and plant some more plants,” said Richard Hufford with GWP. “It’s the same kind of thing we did last month. We had a fantastic turnout and we had a really good time.”

Native plants being re-introduced along the Gila River not only help the watershed, it helps protect the area from spread of wildfire, as native plants don’t burn as hot or as long as invasive species such as tamarisk.

Volunteers will meet at the Gila Native Plants Nursery at Discovery Park Campus of EAC at 7 a.m. for a ride out to the site, with a return time of 11 a.m. A light breakfast will be provided.

RSVP to info@gwpaz.org. Seats in the van are limited, so participants may also caravan in their own vehicles; however, four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended.
