Greenlee only county in Arizona under 6 percent unemployment

PHOENIX — Graham County saw a slight uptick in jobless claims in November, while Greenlee County’s unemployment rate dropped.

According to data released Thursday by the Arizona Commerce Authority, Greenlee County had an unemployment rate of 5.9 percent in November, a drop of 0.1 points from October’s unemployment rate of 6 percent.

Graham County is at 6.3 percent unemployment in November, up just 0.1 points from October’s 6.3 percent.

Greenlee and Graham remain the two counties with the lowest unemployment in the state, with Graham sharing the second-lowest rate with La Paz County. Cochise County is right behind at 6.4 percent.

Statewide, unemployment is at 7.8 percent, down 0.1 points from October and up 3.3 points from November 2019. The national rate was 6.7 percent.

Six economic sectors reported job gains in November. Trade, transportation and utilities were up 19,000 jobs; leisure and hospitality (up 2,600); construction (up 2,400 jobs); education and health services (up 2,100 jobs); financial activities (up 1,800); and manufacturing (up 1,500).

Posting job losses were professional and business services (down 700 jobs) and information (down 500).

Natural resources and mining showed neither gains nor losses in November.
