SAFFORD — A service provider being sold has a resulted in Graham County having to spend more than one-third of a million dollars not planned for in the current budget.

On Monday, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the expenditure of $380,000 to replace security technology at county facilities.

“We have, of course, the identification cards for employees. And through the software of Stanley we can control our access into several locations and several buildings throughout the county. And it also gives us logs of who goes in and out, and when they go in and out,” County Manager Dustin Welker said.

Stanley Security, the county’s current provider, was sold to Securitas, a company that has not been responsive to the county’s issues with their product.

So the county is changing vendors to Category Networks LLC/Verkada, which will necessitate changing out 66 cameras and 82 access controls, including keypads, intercoms and alarm pads.

County officials are pulling the money from a number of different funds — including the Highway Fund, Recreation and the Jail District among others — since the expense was not included in this year’s budget.
