SAFFORD — The Safford Lions Club is bringing back the Field of Honor for Veterans Day.

“(It’s) a large number of flags that you can honor someone in your family, or a friend or somebody — a man or a woman — who has served and is a veteran,” said Chris Gibbs with the Safford Lions Club.

The flags are placed on the lawns of Safford City Hall and Graham County Courthouse.

For $35 the first year, a person can place a veteran’s name, branch and length of service, and rank placed on a tag on the pole with the flag. Renewal of a flag in subsequent years is just $10.

The flags will be placed starting Saturday, Nov. 6, and will remain on display until Saturday, Nov. 13.

“Veteran’s Day is on the 11th, and on that day is a parade (at 10 a.m.) . . . then when we get to the courthouse area, at 11 a.m., the American Legion and American Legion Honor Guard take over the celebration of Veteran’s Day,” Gibbs said. “It’s a short, usually about a half-hour or so, ceremony, and then please stay and visit the Field of Honor, whether you have someone out there or not.”

Flags may be purchased at the Famer’s Insurance office, 610 W. Main St., in Safford, throughout the week.
