SAFFORD – Get your pens, paints, pencils and tablets ready; the Safford LibraryCon Fan Art Competition is back for its second year.

Last year, artists submitted an impressive array of artwork for the public to enjoy during LibraryCon 2016 and after in the library itself. The fan art competition is an opportunity for local artists to not just show off their work, but to celebrate the art, books, movies, games and more that they love. Last year’s 45 submissions represented everything from Disney villains to manga characters.

“We were surprised by the quantity and quality of entries last year,” said Fan Art and Library-Con Coordinator Lesley Talley. “We are really looking forward to see what arrives this year. The display is also popular with library patrons who loving seeing the work and voting for their favorites.”

Artists age 13 and up are invited to enter. Entries must be two dimensional and ready to hang. Art submissions are due at the Safford City-Graham County Library by noon, Monday, June 19.  The artwork is reviewed by local artists and fan art experts before determining winners. An additional award is given to the “fan favorite” which is determined by Library-Con attendees and library patrons.  Registration forms and a full list of contest guidelines can be picked up at the library.
