Thatcher, Ariz — Eastern Arizona College cruised to a decisive 74-43 victory over College of Southern Nevada on Wednesday night, capturing both the Region 1 and West District championships.
Sophomore center Ashlynn Chlarson powered Eastern Arizona with an impressive double-double, finishing with 30 points and 19 rebounds and earning MVP honors. Teammate Eanae Dagons nearly notched a triple-double, contributing 12 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists, while Stephany Goncalves added 12 points, seven assists, and four rebounds. Eastern Arizona set the tone early with relentless defense, holding Southern Nevada to just 27.3% shooting from the field and 1-15 from beyond the arc.
For College of Southern Nevada, Saroiya Ajomale led with 16 points, while Kayla Terry contributed nine points and nine boards. Despite their efforts, CSN was unable to overcome EAC’s dominance.
Now boasting a 25-6 record, Eastern Arizona advances to their seventh national tournament appearance, set to take place in Casper, Wyoming from March 25th through April 1st. Coming off a Final Four appearance last year, the Gila Monsters look primed for another deep postseason run. They will find out their tournament seed and first-round opponent during the selection show on March 16th.
