Chamber, Tourism Council debut Adventure Club

SAFFORD — Everyone is eligible to participate in Graham County’s newest club — and there are no dues to join.

Gila Valley Adventure Club is the outreach program for the Gila Valley Tourism Council.

“We’re trying to introduce our staff to all the tourism assets around the county, but also anyone who wants to show us something around the county, or show us something we should be highlighting (and) putting in pamphlets,” said Vance Bryce, executive director for the Graham County Chamber of Commerce.

On the third weekend of each month, the Adventure Club will visit an area or attraction within the county that could attract tourists. The first visit in January was to Mt. Graham Golf Course and February’s focus will be on the Gila River.

The Adventure Club will partner with the Graham County Leadership Program, Gila Watershed Partnership and Southeastern Arizona Clean and Beautiful to conduct a clean-up along the river, to help development of Gila River Park and Riverwalk.

In March, Adventure Club will view the attractions at Eastern Arizona College’s Discovery Park campus and in April Adventure Club members will explore the Gila Box Riparian National Conservation Area.

Each participant is responsible for his or her own costs when applicable.
