Thatcher, Ariz. — Eastern Arizona College (EA) recently received a generous grant from The Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation to support Forging Opportunity: Rural Welding Expansion Project. Grant funding will be used to renovate the former technical education building leased from Pima Unified School District. Renovations include the addition of six new welding bays, increasing the total to 14, along with critical HVAC and electrical upgrades. The project also supports consumable supplies, scholarships to offset course fees and AWS certification costs, and the hiring of a full-time welding instructor.
These enhancements will allow EA to nearly double annual enrollment in its welding program while expanding work-based learning opportunities with regional employers. The project is designed to meet growing demand for skilled welders and strengthen the local workforce pipeline.
“The Halle Foundation grant will significantly strengthen our welding program and help meet local industry needs by nearly doubling student enrollment opportunity,” said Kevin Peck, dean of business, technology, and workforce development. “It will also equip students with state-of-the-art tools and technology, ensuring they are prepared from day one to deliver the highly skilled workforce our industry partners demand.”
