COCHISE COUNTY— Residents have been allowed to return home following an increase in containment of the Shaw fire west of Pearce and Sunsites.
The fire is currently listed at 16 acres with 85-percent containment.
The fire was first reported at about 3 acres April 20 but, due to its proximity to homes, the residents of Cochise Stronghold were ordered to evacuate by Cochise County Sheriff’s Office. The surrounding areas were also placed on SET status, meaning the order to evacuate could happen at any time.
The fire grew to 20 acres and was attacked by single-engine air tankers, large air tankers and a type-1 helicopter.
Crews are now working mop-up duty around residential areas.
