Fire crews and deputies responded to a house fire in the Artesia area Saturday afternoon. The home owner told investigators that he was welding a bracket onto a box and the weld went through the box and started the fire. He tried putting it out with water but the fire burned through the water lines. Next he tried a fire extinguisher but when that didn’t work, his wife called the fire department.
The home was made out of several metal Conex boxes, which were attached together with wooden interior walls. Fire and smoke damaged the entire home. The home owners said that they did not have insurance on the residence.
