Authorities in Graham County are investigating an early morning assault that left a man with minor injuries, though the victim has declined to pursue charges.
According to a report from the Graham County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 4:18 a.m. on April 21 to the emergency room at Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, where the victim, was receiving treatment.
The man told responding officers that the incident occurred earlier that morning, around 2:50 a.m., outside a residence along East U.S. Highway 70. He said he had been working on a motorcycle with a friend when the friend briefly went inside to retrieve keys. During that time, the victim reported hearing someone call his name from behind. As he turned, he was struck in the head and knocked to the ground.
The victim stated he was hit multiple times in the head and also suffered blows to his ribs. Deputies observed minor bruising consistent with his account, though injuries appeared limited.
The man told authorities he did not recognize his attacker or attackers—he believed there may have been one or possibly two individuals involved—and said he had no known conflicts that would have led to the assault. Despite the incident, he declined to press charges, expressing doubt that the suspects could be identified.
Investigators canvassed the area but were unable to locate physical evidence such as shoe prints or surveillance cameras that might aid in identifying a suspect.
The case remains documented, though no active charges are being pursued at this time.
