SAFFORD — The First Friday event from Gila Watershed Partnership for August will be a field trip.
On Friday, Aug. 1, volunteers will have the chance to plant native seeds in areas along the Gila River in a fun, unique way.
“We have seed mudballs; lots and lots of these things that are native seeds,” said GWP Executive Director Dr. Sarah Sayles. “We’re going to let people go out and use the slingshot to fling them out. Possibly in either our restoration areas or possibly in some of the areas that have had fire. It’s going to depend on what the monsoon has done between now and then.”
Participants will meet at 6:50 a.m. at the GWP nursery, on the Discovery Park Campus of EAC, and be driven out to restoration areas.
Gila Watershed Partnership’s mission is to “engage the community in improving the water quality and ecosystem condition of the Upper Gila Watershed through education and economic opportunity.”
