THATCHER — The Small Business Development Center at Eastern Arizona College is taking sign-ups for two business competitions.
Youth Entrepreneur Excellence Training (YEET) will take place June 30 to July 3, and is for high schoolers to learn about basic business practices. At the end of the week, they create a 60-90 second video pitch of a business idea to adult experts.
“We did it last year for the first time ever, and it was amazing,” said SBDC Business Analyst Torey Cranford.
Last year’s winner, Rebecca Medina, took home $1,000 for her pitch for an automated cat litter disposal system.
There is no cost and the competition is open to incoming freshmen to incoming seniors from Graham or Greenlee county high schools.
The other competition is for adults looking to take their existing business to the next level.
Moonshot will take place July 11, giving business owners — and those looking to start a business — the opportunity to work with business experts on refining their pitch to seek funding.
This will be the third year Moonshot has taken place in Graham and Greenlee counties. Last year’s winner, Arcane Gear owner Matthew Artman, was awarded $2,500 to help grow his business, as well as compete in the statewide competition for a chance at another $10,000.
There is no cost to participate.
