WILLCOX — Forward progress of the Maverick fire has been stopped, but there is no word yet on containment.
The Maverick fire is burning in Cowboy Canyon, northeast of Willcox, and was discovered Tuesday evening. The fire is currently reported at 20 acres.
Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management reports engines and large air tankers have been assigned to battle the blaze, which is burning desert vegetation of grass and brush.
