GRAHAM COUNTY — A resident contacted Graham County Dispatch to report an attempted scam.
The person said she was contacted on the phone and told she missed a July 6 court date, and she was now being cited and had to pay fines.
The woman disconnected before providing any financial information.
Law enforcement will not call to say a warrant has been issued or to receive payment for fines.
During a June appearance in Duncan, Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said scams are on the rise, especially those targeting seniors, and local agencies need help combating the growing number of scammers.
“We need more people at police departments that can step in and help people that have been defrauded. Especially around electronic fraud,” Mayes said.
