The group has researched more than 1,500 Halloween-related terms – encompassing everything from costumes and decorations to candy – to gauge the popularity of the holiday in each state.
In 2023, it’s Barbie’s year as the pink fervor spreads all across the country, except in one state.
Here are our top findings:
- Topping the charts with over 108 Halloween-related searches per 1,000 residents in the past three months, Washington, D.C. is leading the Halloween charge. Locals’ interests range from “how to get into the Halloween spirit” to “Halloween costume ideas” and “scary skeletons.”
- Following closely behind is California with 101 searches per 1,000 residents. “Horror nights” are what drive Californians’ enthusiasm, bested only by trending costume ideas.
- Family-focused Utah claims the third spot with 100 searches per 1,000 residents. Utah, in fact, boasts the highest proportion of children in the local population, fueling an enthusiasm for the holiday that’s hard to rival. Costumes, decorations, and ideas about how to get in the Halloween spirit are driving searches in Utah.
But that’s not all. Storage Cafe delved even deeper, revealing each state’s top Halloween costume – and the least popular ones.
