3-on-3 hoops tourney to help families battling cancer

THATCHER — Basketball players have a chance this weekend to help families dealing with cancer.

Families Fighting Cancer Together is hosting its first 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament at Thatcher High School on Saturday, starting at 8:30 a.m.

“It just seems like a fun thing to do,” said Luke Hatch with Families Fighting Cancer Together. “We want something the community would think would be fun, and they would enjoy doing as a family. Or at least come and watch one of your kids play.”

The tournament will feature nine different divisions, based on age:

● 10 and Under, 12 and Under, and 14 and Under, all coed

● 16 and Under boys and girls

● 18 and Under High School boys and girls

● 18 and Older men and women

Cost is $80 per teams and registration can be made at Home – Families Fighting Cancer Together (ffct.us).

All proceeds will help families cover the costs associated with a family members battling cancer. Hatch said he and his wife understand the burdens families face, because they lost their son, Carson, to pediatric cancer 10 years ago.

“There’s out of town expenses — gas, food, time off work — just unexpected things that happen,” Hatch said. “We would love to be able to help families going through the same thing we did years ago.”

Families Fighting Cancer Together is a 501(c)3 charity organization and a Qualified Charitable Organization, so donations of up to $800 for a couple filing jointly and $400 for individuals qualify for the state tax credit.
