John Rains

John William Rains, age 89, of Safford, passed away on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2016. Leave it to John to pick the perfect day, he loved the bagpipes.

John was born on February 12, 1927, in Denver, Colorado.  John had three brothers, James, Richard and Allen. His proud parents were Archie Melvin Rains and Vincine Alabeth Vincent.

John enlisted in the WWII in 1944 when he was 17 years old and then was activated to go to the Korean War in 1950 and returned back to the states in 1951.

John asked Barbara to be his wife and was married March 7, 1981; they just celebrated their 35th anniversary. John brought Barbara two daughters, Geri and Candi. Barbara brought John her two daughters   Kathy and Patty. Together they have three grandsons and six granddaughters, five great-grandsons and seven great-granddaughters and one on her way.

John and Barbara served the L.D.S. church with genealogy for 18 months. They loved to square dance and were in parades doing so. They went on a mission together in Alabama for one year. John enjoyed his family, eating, playing games, eating, playing with his trains and oh did I say eating? His favorite places were Olive Garden and Golden Corral, all you can eat, go figure…
