SAFFORD — Two groups want to get more healthy food in the hands of everyone, but especially those with little access to healthy food options

First up, the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension for Graham County will present a one-day class entitled Pantry Basics, as part of its Cooking with Cindy program at Safford City-Graham County Library.

The class will focus on how best to stock and organize a pantry for easy, healthy cooking. And there will be a demonstration on how to make no-knead skillet focaccia bread.

The free class will take place Tuesday, July 13, at 10:30 a.m.

Two days later the focus shifts to food producers.

“We’re throwing a Funding for Farmers workshop,” said Kathryn Williams with Gila Valley Food Coalition. “So this is for anyone raising food, producing food, meat as well if you’re raising a beef cow. Come out and learn about financing options to you in the Gila Valley.”

The focus will be on helping food producers expand their business, as well as teaching casual growers how they can turn their hobby into a business.

Presenters will include: Arizona Economic Recovery Center, Prestamos CDFI, Graham County Supervisors, USDA, U of A Cooperative Extension, SBDC and Country Financial.

The Funding for Farmers Workshop will take place Thursday, July 15, from 9-10 a.m., at the barn on the Eastern Arizona College Discovery Park Campus.
